KARACHI:

Pakistan ‘A’, comprising Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Sajjad, will take on Thailand while India ‘A’ will be up against Iran in the semi-finals of the Jubilee Insurance 2nd Asian Team Event being played in Karachi.

The last-four round will get underway at 10am local time, followed by the final.

In the quarter-finals, Pakistan ‘A’ outplayed India ‘B’ 3-1. The Pakistani team won the first singles frame with ease, but the Indians drew parity to make it 1-1.

However, the hosts restored their lead by winning the doubles frame and Asif sealed the win in style by chalking up a break of 124 points in the fourth frame as the team won with overall scores of 84-24, 06-80, 67-17 and 124-0(124).

Meanwhile, Iran pipped Syria 3-2 after throwing away their 2-0 lead at one stage and won with scores of 73-30, 96-01, 45-60, 11-89(79) and 74-47.

Although both Asif and Sajjad had recently lost their World Team Championship title, the defeat has not dented their hopes as both are eager to claim the Asian Team event.
