ISLAMABAD:

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid has said the government wants to resolve the issue peacefully through dialogue.

Talking to a television channel on Wednesday, he said all out efforts were being made to defuse the situation peacefully as, he said, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) were using children and women as human shields. “It is difficult to use force against innocent children and women,” he added.

Pervaiz Rashid said the government would request both Imran Khan and Dr Tahirul Qadri to keep their protests merely protests and not to change it into something else.

The minister condemned the incident in Multan, where the PTI’s leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s residence was allegedly attacked by the ruling PML-N. “It is not our party’s policy and I apologise to Shah Mehmood Qureshi over the incident,” he said.

Responding to a question, he said the government did not have any power to take resignations from Election Commission members as it was the election body was independent in its functioning.

Pervaiz Rashid said he came to know in the early morning that one of the leaders of the PTI had shown willingness for negotiations and that the PM Nawaz Shairf had nominated four persons for the dialogue process.
