LAHORE:

The Punjab government has acknowledged the right to double-pension for retired government employees who are over the ages of 75 and the Finance Department has issued a notification in this regard.

Punjab Ombudsman Javed Mahmood has said, “Retired employees, who are 75 or above, will celebrate their Eid with double the happiness.”

He has directed the finance secretary and the Punjab accountant general to pay the arrears to the pensioners before Eid. Mahmood said that the old pensioners, who had been fighting a legal battle for many years, had finally got their right.

The Punjab Services Tribunal, the Lahore High Court and the Federal Services Tribunal have upheld the pensioners’ right to double pensions. Earlier, a full bench of the Supreme Court dismissed petitions filed by the Punjab government to review the decision.
