LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has granted protective bail till August 11 to Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Rana Shoaib Idrees, who was caught on tape attacking a police station in Faisalabad.

LHC Justice Mazhar Iqbal Sidhu granted Idrees bail on personal surety.

While speaking to Express News, Idrees defended himself, saying the footage that the police presented as evidence against him is over a year old, of an incident that occurred before the general elections.

Furthermore, the MPA added that he was hiding from the police for the past three days as they were conducting raids and he feared that he would be arrested before approaching the court.

Idrees pleaded to the court to direct the police not to harass him and let him approach the court so he can try to get a bail in the FIR registered against him.

Responding to his plea, the judge directed the police not to harass him till August 11 and let him approach the court.

Idrees and his accomplices allegedly attacked the Khurarianwala police station in order to free his companions on July 19. It is reported that the accused freed Rana Zulfiqar Bhutto and his three accomplices charged in a murder case.

It was further alleged that Idrees and his accomplices tortured and injured a police Sub Inspector, Riyasat Ali, and other police officials and also damaged official property of the station.

The Khurarianwala police had registered a case under various sections of the Anti Terrorism Act and Pakistan Penal Code against nine identified and 50 unidentified men for taking the law in their own hands, damaging the police station, rioting and injuring policemen.

The nine accused had been identified as Zakariya, Muzammal Hussain, Muhammad Shabbir, Muhammad Shafiq, Abu Bakar, Muhammad Asif, Naveed Ahmad and Rana Muhammad Phool.  A politician was also nominated in the FIR but his name was not mentioned in the FIR.

A two-member fact finding committee, comprising SSP Operation Sahibzada Bilal Umar and SP Jaranwala Arif Shehbaz, identified Idrees as key-accused in the incident.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, on the basis of the fact finding committee’s report, had ordered the IG Police to arrest the MPA and all other accused without any delay and discrimination.

PMLN UK | 9 years ago | Reply Mr Idrees is innocent. Just like Gullu Butt, he will also soon be vindicated and freed. People should stop hassling PMLN. They are the best thing to ever happened to Pakistan. We don't know how lucky we are to have them.

"Idrees defended himself, saying the footage that the police presented as evidence against him is over a year old"

Was it legal to storm a police station and beat the people one year ago? 1 year ago or 10 years ago what does it matter? The only thing that does matter is that you broke the law.
