CHARSADDA: Relatives of a prisoner who died in Kohat Jail under mysterious circumstances protested on Monday at Farooq Azam Chowk against doctors who refused to conduct the post-mortem on the deceased inmate’s body.

Musafir, a resident of Rajar Kenankhel, was arrested by security forces three years ago. He was to be presented at Peshawar High Court on August 20.

Talking to the media, Musafir’s father Pervaiz said his son was arrested three years earlier for unknown reasons and was then shifted to an undisclosed location. He added they approached the high court after searching for Musafir for months.

“Last night, the city police informed us our son had passed away, upon which we rushed to Kohat Jail,” said Pervaiz. He added they somehow managed to obtain the body but doctors at District Headquarters Hospital refused to perform a post-mortem.

City police SHO Ijaz Khan later assured the bereaved family of support following which they ended their demonstration.

Musafir is survived by two sons, two daughters and his wife, who has demanded the government take steps to secure the future of her now fatherless children.
