ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday directed Higher Education Commission (HEC) chairman to release salaries of two HEC officials who were sacked in March.

A one-member IHC bench resumed hearing a contempt of court plea filed by HEC employees, Anees Sadozai and Zia Batool, against the higher education body.

The petitioners’ counsel told the court that the HEC has not implemented court orders regarding the regularisation of his clients’ services and moreover, they have not been paid for the last three months.

He informed the court that an IHC bench in March this year had directed the respondents to regularise services of the petitioners and later, a bench had also dismissed an intra-court appeal of the HEC against the decision.

He further told the court that the HEC, under former chairman Javed Leghari, had submitted an undertaking before the court for regularising the services of the petitioners. Not only were the services not regularised but the HEC also terminated the petitioners’ service on March 17 this year, the lawyer maintained.

The counsel further claimed that his clients have been victimised and requested the court to start contempt of court proceedings against HEC officials for not complying with court orders.
