HYDERABAD:

A young boy drowned while swimming in River Indus near the protective embankment in Latifabad Unit 10 on Sunday. Three other teenagers, who were with him in the river, were rescued.

According to survivor Arbab Khan, he was swimming with his friends in the river near the levy when Raza Hyder, 19, son of Javed Hyder, was pushed deep inside the river by the current. Arif and Waqar are the other two boys who survived. The divers pulled out the four boys in unconscious state and took them to the Bhitai Hospital Latifabad, where doctors declared Hyder dead.

Hyder is the third young boy to have died while swimming in the past three days. On Saturday, 20-year-old Sajjad Qureshi drowned in Fuleli Canal, which springs from the Kotri barrage on River Indus. Faizan,19, son of Abdul Majeed, drowned in Indus river in Latifabad on Friday.

The district administrations of Hyderabad and Jamshoro have imposed a ban on swimming in the river as well as the four water canals off-taking from the Kotri barrage. The ban is, however, not being enforced.
