KARACHI: The Pakistan Swimming Federation (PSF) is yet to receive a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) for its participation at the Commonwealth and Asian Games, informed PSF Secretary Veena Masud.

“Our participation in both Games is still on hold as we haven’t received a NOC from the POA for our selected probables,” Veena Masud told The Express Tribune.

The secretary also stated that that the federation could not reveal the names of the shortlisted players until they were given a clear go ahead; however, she confirmed that Pakistan’s top swimmer Kiran Khan was on the list.

Meanwhile, despite preparing for the mega events in the absence of either a coach or any other representatives, Kiran remains hopeful of the country’s participation at the Games and their chances of winning a medal.

“I’ve been working very hard for the Commonwealth and Asian Games, even though I’m unsure of whether I’m taking part or not,” said Kiran.

“The federation changes its decision to participate after every month or so.

“I won 11 gold and three silver medals at the 13th National Women’s [Open] Swimming Championship to keep my position as the country’s top swimmer, but it will be a battle to prove myself against tough international opposition.

“Having said that, I am extremely determined to give it my best shot and do something worthwhile internationally so that the government and the public sit up and take notice.”

The 23-year-old swimmer added that expectations needed to be kept at bay since the swimmers had not been give a coach to properly train with.
