Shoot-out: Old dispute claims three lives in Jamrud

Among the dead is a driver who was shot for taking injured people to hospital.

HANGU/ JAMRUD: Three people were killed and five others were injured in a shoot-out between two groups in Ghundai, Jamrud tehsil of Khyber Agency late Sunday night.

Political administration official Roshan Mehsud said the fight took place at around 10:30pm. A group led by Iftikhar Khan and another one led by Tawab opened fire at each other in Ghundai over an old dispute.

Tawab died on the spot while five members of his group were injured. A member of the other group, Iftikhar Khan, was also severely injured, said Mehsud.

Khan succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. A taxi driver, Dilawar, took the injured identified as Qadir, Saleem, Muhammad, Jehanzeb and Hamayun to Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar.

According to Mehsud, Khan’s family shot Dilawar dead when he returned after taking the injured to the hospital.

The shooters then escaped. A case has been filed and an investigation is under way.

Bombs defused 

A high-intensity bomb planted by militants was defused in Jamrud on Sunday.

A political administration official said militants planted a bomb near the Pak-Afghan Highway in Sur Kamar but it was luckily spotted by a pedestrian.

Khasadar officials rushed to the site and stopped traffic on the thoroughfare. Officials of the bomb disposal unit  came to defuse the device. According to the squad, the bomb weighed five kilogrammes.

A case has been filed against unidentified militants.

Meanwhile, a high-intensity bomb was also defused by the bomb disposal unit in Hangu district.

Squad in charge Asadullah said unidentified militants planted a high-intensity bomb along a roadside in Sarozai. A passer-by spotted the bomb and informed the police.

Asadullah and his team rushed to the site which the police had already cordoned off. The bomb weighing five kilogrammes was planted in a canister. Asadullah claimed the bomb was planted to target convoys of security forces.
