KARACHI: The bomb disposal squad (BDS) managed to defuse a bomb on Sunday. The bomb was planted outside the Rabbani masjid in Rabbani Mohallah, Orangi Town within the limits of Pirabad police station. It was hidden in an oil container and had a mobile phone attached to it.

As residents of the area were returning home after offering Fajr, they noticed something suspicious - a mobile phone attached to a container. A few people stepped forward and removed the phone from the container.

A contingent of law enforcers comprising police and Rangers reached the site and cordoned the area off. The BDS were also summoned and they confirmed the presence of the bomb in the oil container.

According to the BDS experts, about 1.5 kilogrammes of explosive materials was used in the device. Instead of ball bearings, marble stones were used in the bomb, they added.

One of the men who defused the bomb told The Express Tribune that many lives could have been lost if someone had mishandled the bomb.

SHO Haq Nawaz Baloch said that a case has been registered against unidentified persons and further investigation was underway.
