KARACHI: Delhi Daredevils gave themselves an excellent chance to go through to the semi-finals of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as they thrashed Chennai Super Kings by six wickets.

Delhi bowlers ran through the strong Chennai’s batting line-up and restricted the home side for a meagre 112 off the allotted quota. Matthew Hayden (one), Murali Vijay (17) and MS Dhoni (duck) failed to click as Ashish Nehra ( three for 26) and Virender Sehwag (two for 18) caused maximum problems.

The in-form Suresh Raina also failed to contribute significantly and fell for 15 and the same happened with Michael Hussey (15) as Chennai’s middle-order crumbled. Subramaniam Badrinath’s brief fightback (30) gave the total some respectability as he added 35 with tail-ender Doug Bollinger (16) in the last four overs to take his side past the 100-mark. The trend continued in the second half of the match as Delhi lost their first three wickets with only six on the board.

They lost another wicket on 38 but Gautam Gambhir (57) and Mithun Manhas (25) added 75 runs for the unbroken fourthwicket partnership to ensure the small target was achieved without any more hiccups.
