ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday issued notices to the interior secretary and the inspector general of the Islamabad Police (IGP) on a plea filed by former Senate chairman Waseem Sajjad, seeking provision of security to him.

IHC Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi resumed hearing of the plea and sought a reply from the respondents within 15 days.

Sajjad apprised the bench that on November 16, 2007, caretaker prime minister Muhammad Mian Soomro had approved a summary to provide security to the former Senate chairman.

He said that in June 2013, the interior ministry reduced his security. Sajjad claimed that as per the order of the former PM, the interior ministry had to provide a police mobile squad and five policemen for home duty including a personal gunman.
