RAWALPINDI:

The husband of a teacher has been sent on physical remand after being accused of torturing a nine-year-old student who was late for class. The incident took place in the jurisdiction of Morgah Police Station.

Muhammad Sulaiman, the father of fifth grader Hamza Sulaiman, told The Express Tribune on Thursday that last Friday, his son got to his tuition class late. “Hamza fell in a drain and had to go back home to change his clothes. That is why he got late, but it still infuriated his teacher, Nazia Bibi,” he said.

Muhammad Sulaiman accused Nazia’s husband Imran Raza of thrashing his son for 10 minutes and then placing a hot iron on his body, causing severe injuries.

Muhammad Sulaiman said that when Hamza returned home that day, he was upset and did not told us about his injuries.

Two days later, Hamza’s mother found blood stains on his clothes and when she asked him how they got there, he told the whole story. “We took Hamza to the hospital, where doctors confirmed the burns,” he said.

Hamza said the teacher beat him and then asked her husband to hang him upside down from a ceiling fan. “I was crying and promising that I would never be late again but they kept beating me,” the nine-year-old said.
