GUJRANWALA: A couple sold their newborn children to a private hospital in Gujrat in order to pay for the delivery procedure, Express News reported on Saturday.
The parents had arrived at the hospital expecting to pay for a normal delivery; however, they had to opt for a Cesarean section (C-section) after discovering that the mother was carrying twins, the procedure for which is more expensive.
Since the couple was unable to pay the hospital the bill of Rs32,000, hospital administration reportedly suggested that they sell their firstborn children and use the money to make the payment.
“The staff made a mistake by playing a role in this trade”, a doctor at the hospital said.
The children's father spoke to Express News and said that they only made this trade because of poverty.
"If our children go into a rich household, they will get an education and they will be happy. If they are happy then we will be happy," the visibly distressed father said.
The police arrested Dr Rizwan, the owner of the hospital, and have also registered a First Information Report against him.

OMG, Gujrat, seems hitting home. Most of doctors in Gujrat are filthy rich having their own hospitals and other commercial interests, do not how much they want. Greed
Oh my God this is surely unjust. We need to raise the funds urgently so their children can be returned to them before someone else not entitled to them gets too attached to them.
This is inhumane. The hospital owners/administrators/doctors need to be dealt with sternly (even though I know that nothing will happen to them). Why didn't the parents approach Saylani Foundation or any other Pakistani NGO for help??

Despite extreme poverty, gang rapes, massive corruption, suicides, murders, kidnappings for ransom, massive unemployment, lack of education and health facilities, our media continues to tell us Punjab is best run province and a role model for everyone. Thanks to the media as well for painting a rosy picture of a cesspool.
its the responsibility of the community (state) to help people in such issues not government or government officials, they are on state stipends for on site education and training, it the obligation of relatives/friends/neighbours and responsibility state officials who consumed handsome amount to become Phds and experts on petty issues to resolve such issues, its better to prefer home/natural delivery but if the midwife or doctor demands hospitalisation and realistic analysis concludes that she/he cannot afford the delivery then even the hospital must do it first and ask latter from the individual / state departments or even make a separate head for deserving patients and recoup from rich treatment charges.
If people can't afford to give children a good life, then they should not give birth to them in the first place. We need more awareness of medical contraceptives in Pakistan.
GUjrat is no different where commercial aspects are preferred over nobility. Hospitals and doctors who set their own fee and charges pushed their clients towards C section for making more money which they can't do in normal deliveries. Punjab and federal governments have done nothing to regulate this sector and the citizens are left upon medico-businessmen to continueously and criminally exploit and loot the nation.
Where are the Chaudry's of Gujrat and the Punjab Government.

What makes him think the children will go to a rich household? They may not be happy with a rich household. If i was the hospital, id waive the fee, and give the children back, or if hospital insists that they want to "buy" their children back, i have no doubt the equivalent of 200 pounds can be raised in minutes from readers of this article.
The father made the right decision! But it'd have been wiser if he had looked at his pocket before impregnating his wife.
