SUKKUR: Announcing the arrest of a most-wanted criminal in Sukkur, DIG Javed Alam Odho said they are trying to root out crimes from the area.
“I would like to assure people that they will feel a difference very soon,” he said, while addressing a press conference at his office on Wednesday afternoon. “I am not promising to bring the crime rate to zero and my team is working hard to root out crimes, such as kidnappings and highway robberies from the area.”
Odho announced that the area’s most-wanted criminal, Darya Khan aka Fauji Jatoi, surrendered himself to the police on Tuesday night. According to him, he was forced to surrender due to the police’s perfect timing and pressure. Khan was wanted in more than 20 cases of heinous crimes and the Sindh government had set a reward of Rs500,000 for his capture.
Due to the stricter crime control measures adapted by the police in the area, there had been no incident of car or motorcycle snatching, he said. Around 11 people in the area have been kidnapped and have yet to be returned. The first priority of the police, he said, is to recover them.
Speaking about the kidnapping of Aijaz Abro, a resident of Lal Mohammad Abro village, who was kidnapped on his way to Rohri from Sangrar for work on Wednesday, the DIG said the police found his car and he will also be recovered soon.
Odho also said that in the past week, the police had arrested a gang of highway robbers and recovered arms and ammunition from them. Referring to the terrorist attack at the Karachi airport he said that the police have been put on high alert and are in constant touch with the intelligence agencies to prevent any untoward incident from taking place. On the recent road accident near the wholesale fruit and vegetable market in Sukkur for which the police were being blamed, he said that an inquiry was being conducted and necessary action would be taken against those found responsible.
