ISLAMABAD:

Young judicial officers should assert their authority to protect women from inhuman treatment.

This was said by Supreme Court Justice Dost Muhammad Khan at the academy night of a one-week refresher course on “Gender Sensitisation and New Laws” for senior civil judges from all over Pakistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, held here at the Federal Judicial Academy.

“It is regrettable that women are treated as slaves in our society and they often become victims of draconian traditions. You have to exercise your judicial authority and come to their rescue.”

He also said that family is a primary unit of society. “When any family is disturbed, the entire society, nay the entire state remains disturbed. We all know the fact that disturbance of any family develops social disorder and it does not augur well for any society.”

Advising family judges, he said, exercise extra care while dealing with family cases and make maximum efforts to save the family.
