PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA) has decided to move court against the daily closure of Khyber, Sher Shah Suri, Governor House and jail roads. The association also demanded completion of the Mufti Mehmood Flyover within a month.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the association presided over by its president Muhammad Isa Khan on Thursday. The association said construction work on the flyover was supposed to be completed in March this year but was delayed.

“After 9pm, one side of the major roads including Khyber, Sher Shah Suri, Governor House and central jail is closed for traffic, which creates problems for commuters,” said the president.

The association jointly maintained that if Shakil Afridi, who was sentenced on charges of links with a banned militant organisation and is currently imprisoned at the Peshawar Central Prison, was the reason the routes are shut down at night, he should be shifted to another jail.

During an earlier hearing, the court was informed that construction work on the flyover will be completed in August this year after which it will be opened for general traffic.

The association demanded the provincial government to complete the remaining construction work on Mufti Mehmood Flyover within a month and suspend the license of the company which was given the contract for the project.
