Eighteen killed in Gilgit road accident

GILGIT: As many as 18 persons were feared dead in a road mishap at Ansar camp near Haramosh point, police sources said on Friday .

According to police control-room sources, a van packed with 18 passengers was on its way to Gilgit when it fell into a deep ravine and skidded into the Indus river.

All the passengers boarded in the van are feared to be dead.

The sources said that initially a truck driver reported the incident, on which police parties were dispatched to ascertain further details.

The truck driver had also shifted the dead bodies to Gilgit hospital, the sources added.
