PESHAWAR:

The district administration launched a drive against encroachment on Tuesday in different parts of the city. Peshawar Deputy Commissioner (DC) Syed Zaheerul Islam directed authorities to clear Ring Road – all the way from Pir Zakori Bridge on GT Road to Hayatabad – of illegal construction.

He said action was taken against four petrol pumps, two CNG pumps, two hotels and 15 shops and 14 people who protested against the drive were arrested.

“The provincial government has decided to construct a service road along Ring Road,” added the Peshawar DC.

Islam directed Assistant Commissioner (AC) Mumtaz Ahmad, additional assistant commissioners Muhammad Fawad, Hasibur Rehman Khalil and officers of the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) to carry out the second phase of an ongoing drive with the help of the police and heavy machinery. Meanwhile an anti-encroachment drive will also be conducted from Phandu Chowk to Kohat Road.

AC Ahmad told The Express Tribune the PDA had issued notices to all traders, shopkeepers and vendors two months ago as well as a reminder a week ago. However, no action was taken against the encroachments.
