HARIPUR: The 110th Jashn-e-Hazara festival came to a close on Sunday evening after drawing thousands from across Hazara division on Sunday.

The four-day festival began at Curtis Ground on April 24 with Governor Sardar Mehtab Khan Abbasi as the chief guest. Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Inayatullah Khan was the guest of honour on the concluding day. The minister distributed prizes among players and teams that achieved distinctions in various sports competitions.

During the four days, players entertained visitors by competing in traditional sports like kabadi, stone lifting, mongli lifting, bull races, tent pegging, horse dances and gatka (stick fighting), among many others. A naat reciting contest was also part of the festivities in addition to a meena bazaar that attracted over 150,000 people.

“We saw over 50,000 people alone at the bull races, festival organiser Sheikh Amjad Hussain told The Express Tribune. The meena bazaar and bulls racing were incorporated in the festival for the first time, added Hussain. “They received an extraordinary response.”

On Sunday, a bull race was held at the Pak-China Fertiliser Ground where more than 50 pairs of bulls participated from across the country. According to the results, Imran’s pair of bulls clinched first position after covering the track length in 29.12 seconds, winning him a motorcycle.

Sada Bahar stood second after his bulls covered the journey in 29.22 seconds and received a cash prize of Rs20,000. Former ministers Syed Aqil Shah and Yusuf Ayub Khan were the main guests at the race.

such activities are excellent and create cultural harmony along with an atmosphere of selflessness, brotherhood and mutual cooperation and most importantly are peace promoting events.
