ISLAMABAD:

The computerisation of the capital’s rural land records is likely to be further delayed. The Rawalpindi administration has gone back on its commitment to hand over records of over 50 villages to Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) for the second time.

The villages became part of ICT after Islamabad became the country’s capital.

“We have requested the administration to either hand over manual or digitised records,” said an official wishing not to be named.

The villages are located in union councils of Rawat, Sihala, Sohan, Shah Allah Ditta, Kirpa and Tarnol. Rawalpindi Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Talat Mehmood Gondal and District Coordination Officer Sajid Zafar could not be reached for comment.

Earlier, the land computerisation project was being executed by the Electronic Government directorate, a department of the Information Technology ministry.

However, the ICT is executing the project itself and is keen to complete it by June 2015.

In 2009, the Pakistan Peoples Party government had launched the Rs84 million project.

Once completed, all the details of the project were to be made public, eliminating any chances of fraud in the sale deeds.
