LAHORE:

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court on Wednesday granted bail to a man whom police had apparently implicated in a fake robbery case.

Ferozewala police said Javed Ajmal was the real culprit, and they had managed to arrest him after 11 years. Ajmal’s counsel said his client had not been nominated in the FIR.

He said the police had arrested him due to a personal grudge.

Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani said the case reflected on police performance, as after 11 years of incident they arrested a suspect who then had nothing to do with the incident.

Justice Azmat Saeed said the case highlighted the Punjab Police’s poor performance.
