KARACHI:

Pakistan Judo Federation (PJF) Secretary Masood Ahmed said that the athletes deserve ample recognition and support after their impressive performance at the 2014 South Asian Judo Championship in Nepal earlier this week.

The judo athletes won 13 medals at the event, including three gold and three silver in individual events and a silver medal in the team championship.

“It’s high time that people start encouraging and appreciating our judokas,” Ahmed told The Express Tribune. “We’ve constantly won medals at the regional level, and this is just the beginning.

“It was heartening to see our players receiving a warm welcome from the Sindh Olympic Association in Karachi and from the Pakistan Sports Board in Islamabad, but support needs to go beyond receptions and felicitations.”
