PESHAWAR:

A seminar organised by the Centre for Research and Security Studies was held here on Saturday. This was done as a part of the centre’s advocacy and awareness campaign for comprehensive reforms to regulations in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).

“The Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) does not even recognise the existence of women, let alone enforce property or inheritance rights,” said a female activist at the occasion.

All participants demanded mainstream political parties to rid Fata of the “British-era black laws”. They also demanded the extension of all laws, including the freedom to media and rights of assembly, to the tribal areas.

“The FCR is not implementable in this age. It is not humane,” said lawyer and former MNA Abdul Lateef Afridi.
