KARACHI: Australian rowing coaches Jonathan Cantwell and Alan Bennett concluded the five-day training course comprising 15 local participants at the Karachi Boat Club (KBC) on Friday.

The KBC held the workshop to encourage local coaches and increase their knowledge in the sport.

The Coaching Course & NCAS Accreditation Level 1, affiliated with Rowing Australia and endorsed by the Australian Sports Commission of the Australian Government, aimed to improve the standard of rowing in Pakistan, starting from the grassroots level at schools.

All coaches and athletes with a minimum of five years of rowing and competition experience were invited to take training from Cantwell and Bennett.

Cantwell, an accredited coach and instructor from Rowing Australia, shared his positive experience with this course.

“This course is mainly about improving teaching skills,” he said in the press statement.

“The coaches here already know a lot about rowing, so our focus was on techniques, and how to better harness their knowledge to become effective.” The sessions focused on professional issues and teaching methodology, covering areas from risk management, child protection, safety procedures, and learning styles of different rowers.

The participants included KBC Captainsof Boat Arif Ikram, head coach Asghar Ali, senior coach Imran Khan and coaches from 10 other schools from Karachi.
