ISLAMABAD:

The Pakistan Agriculture Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) has established 12 zones and 227 procurement centres across the wheat growing areas to facilitate farmers to sell their produce at the fixed official rates during the current season.

An official of PASSCO said that they will start the wheat procurement campaign by the last week of the current month from their zones. He further informed that the department was also devising a transparent mechanism to provide sacks to farmers during the procurement campaign.

Deputy Food Security Commissioner Dr Imtaiz Ahmad Gopang said that the government will procure about 8 million tons of wheat during the current crop season to fulfill domestic requirements as well as keep strategic food reserves.
