The role of the media

Letter April 15, 2014
If television channels focus on socioeconomic issues of common man, they can certainly be effective tools of change.

JAFFARABAD: The media is considered the fourth pillar of state. Unfortunately, our media is not playing a constructive role. Its role is more exclusive than inclusive. All it does mostly is raise the adrenaline level of viewers. If we observe the recent coverage of stories, one notices the focus of television channels is more on non-serious issues which have no concern with common man. Turn on any TV channel and you will see issues like the Musharraf saga, the government-TTP truce or cricket debacles being given ample coverage. If, instead, these television channels focus on the socioeconomic issues of the common man, they can certainly be effective tools of change.
