Polio campaign for FATA announced

Campaign will cover all agencies except North and South Waziristan along with a few areas of Frontier Region Bannu.

PESHAWAR: A polio campaign for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) will kick off soon with the aim to inoculate 710,132 children, Production and Livelihood Development Department Secretary Farukh Siar announced on Monday.

The polio eradication campaign was inaugurated at the Fata Secretariat. Fata’s health department is carrying out the drive in the tribal areas with the help of Rotary International, World Health Organisation and Unicef.

The campaign will last three active days while the last day will be reserved to immunise children who are missed in the vaccination drive.

At the inauguration, Farukh Siar said the campaign will be covering all agencies except North and South Waziristan along with a few areas of Frontier Region Bannu.

He said for a target population of 710,132, they have constituted 2,398 teams out of which 2,325 will be operating through vans while 73 will be fixed.
