LAHORE:

An art exhibition showcasing 12 painters’ work on Pakistan’s ‘springscape’ at Royaat Gallery will open on April 10. It is titled The Artist’s View: Springscape at Royaat.

Faryal Haris, the gallery’s director, said the painters have used a variety of techniques and colour palates to depict a diversity of scenes across Pakistan. Some have illustrated the austere beauty of Balochistan and others the pastoral tranquillity of the Punjab.

Haris said the exhibition captured the influences prevalent among contemporary Pakistani painters. “The influences range from classical to realistic, expressionist, and cubist,” Haris said.  She said the talent on display at this exhibition was a testament to the rich and sophisticated landscape painting tradition in Pakistan.  Evoking the classical style of landscape painters, several paintings represented pastoral fields using fine and detailed strokes. Some paintings evoked the energy of urban areas, using bright colours and bold strokes.  .

The artists include Dr Khalid Mehmood, Ghulam Mustafa, Kakul Kureshi, Matloob Baig, Maliha Azami Agha, Mian Ijazul Hassan, Muhammad Arshad, Munawar Mohiuddin, Naela Aamir, Najamul Hassan, Shehla Farooq and Zulfiqar Ali Zulfi Royaat Art Gallery was established in 2001. Its mission is to create a space to promote the Pakistani arts.  Royaat has so far managed more than 50 shows. It also arranges the sale of Pakistani art internationally.

The exhibition will be on display for two weeks.
