DHAKA: Sri Lanka were awarded the match against West Indies by 27 runs according to the Duckworth-Lewis method after rain and hail washed out the first semi-final of the World Twenty20 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Thursday.

West Indies were chasing Sri Lanka's total of 160-6 and were at 80-4 in 13.5 overs when a heavy downpour forced the match to be abandoned. Marlon Samuels on 18 and Darren Sammy yet to score, were forced to return to the pavilion. Sri Lanka were 27 runs ahead on the Duckworth-Lewis method at that stage.

Subsequently, Sri Lanka were declared winners of the rain-hit semi-final since the West Indies were 27 runs behind the D/L par score of 107.

Sri Lanka await the winners of Friday's second semi-final between India and South Africa in Sunday's title clash.
