SUKKUR:

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) leaders and workers held a protest on Tuesday after a leader of their party was shot at near the Ratodero bypass on Tuesday morning.

After addressing a public rally in Ratodero, JUI Sindh chapter's general secretary Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro was on his way to Larkana when some unidentified armed men opened fire at his vehicle near the Ratodero bypass.

While no one was wounded in the firing, the vehicle was slightly damaged from the bullets.

Scores of JUI workers took to the streets in different cities and towns of upper Sindh to protest the attack. JUI workers in Sukkur, led by JUI Sukkur chapter ameer Mufti Saud Afzal and information secretary Abdul Haq Mahar, protested, carrying banners and placards from Madrassa Hamadia Manzil Gah and marched on the main roads of the city to Minara Road, where they staged a demonstration. The protesters demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits and security for their leaders.

The party's workers in Larkana went around the city and forced the shopkeepers to pull their shutters down.

The protesters also staged a demonstration in front of the Larkana Press Club and demanded the arrest of the culprits responsible for the incident. All the bazaars and business centres were, however, opened again in the afternoon. Similar protest rallies were also staged in Jacobabad and parts of upper Sindh.
