PESHAWAR:

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday sentenced a police constable to life imprisonment for firing at protesters in Bhanamari demonstrating against sectarian clashes on the day of Ashura which claimed at least 15 lives in Rawalpindi on November 15 last year.

The prosecution told the court Gul Badshah, a resident of Parachinar, Kurram Agency, was on duty when some protesters took to the streets to register their opposition to the riots in Rawalpindi. The lawyer said the accused opened fire and seriously injured Najibullah, Sharifa, Sajid Khan, Abdur Rehman, Tadbeer Khan and Tariq. An FIR lodged against the constable at Bhanamari police station charged him under Section 7 on the Anti-Terrorism-Act.

After hearing arguments from both sides, judge Syed Asghar Ali Shah found the accused guilty and awarded him life imprisonment along with another seven years under section 324 of the PPC and a fine of Rs100,000. Moreover, the accused was handed an additional prison sentence of two years.

I request the honourable judge to also pass some judgement about people take streets for nothings and torch public and private properties i have not seen any one going in prison..i am not defending a guilty cop he was deserving it. Was he really trained to control to such mob if not atleast such trainings should be conducted and cops may be familiarized with such methods of handling large public.
