MUMBAI: Veteran writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar finds it a "shame" that certain people have abused actor-filmmaker and "Satyamev Jayate 2" host Aamir Khan and doubted his intentions of amassing donations via the social issue-based TV show.
"Shame! Instead of appreciating Aamir, the great grandson (great grand nephew) of Maulana Azad for highlighting the real issues, some sick people are abusing him," Akhtar posted on his Twitter page Monday.

Aamir made his TV debut with "Satyamev Jayate" (SMJ) in May 2012 and the show, dealing with sensitive social issues like female foeticide, domestic violence and child abuse, received a warm welcome from TV viewers after it went on air on Star Plus.
Some of the episodes dealing with female foeticide and malpractices in the medical field recorded the highest ratings.
The show's second season went on air on STAR India channels March 2. Its first episode dealt with the issue of rape, and the second episode, beamed Sunday, talked about police force.
A defamatory campaign against Aamir began on a social networking site, alleging that when at the end of the show, Aamir asks for donations for Humanity Trust, the money is used for masjid construction assistance and placement assistance for Muslim youth.
In reaction to it, Aamir registered a complaint with the Mumbai police and clarified that the "malicious messages are wrong and baseless".

Interesting. So if Aamir Khan asks for donations which are used for mosque construction and muslim youth aid, then that becomes a big issue and he has to clarify that these are rumours. Sheer Blatant discrimination in India against muslims, or is discrimination something else? I am happy Pakistan was made and my ancestors migrated to Karachi.
Javed is right to support Amir but wrong to bring his lineage into it. Amir deserves support because he is doing the right thing not because he is great grand nephew of Maulana Azad.
@Rahul: Frankly your unsubstantiated bile against anyone that you deem as being from 'saffron camp' is pathetic. There are times that i disagree wih the RSS opinions but regardless of whether their opinions are controversial or not - they do not hide their opinions. Certainly RSS has not accused Amir Nor has BJP one so. People who callenge status quo Do have to face opposition. That is unfortunate but - how the world functions.

There is no marks for guessing it right. It must be some nut case from the saffron camp. The members of the Modi fan club is a little uncomfortabe with Amir Khan, simply because he does not fit the carricature that these people draw of an average Indian Muslim.

Not sure what the man's great grandfather has to do with his credibility, or lack thereof. I find it laughable that a person's forefathers are considered as evidence that someone else is a good person. By the way, I have impressive religious scholars in my family as well...but their actions aren't indicative of my character as a person.

Aamir Khan is one person India looks upon as a role model. He has gone in to the depths of many social evils like rape, dowry deaths, acid attacks and such like. He must be supported in his efforts rather than undermining his actions. More power to you Aamir.

What is this obsession with a person's lineage ? Aamir Khan (or anyone else) is what he is because of HIS actions. J. Akthar's (supposedly a progressive liberal) as well as a reader's comment below make it clear why nepotism, dynastic politics, etc are so widely accepted in South Asia.
Why do you all have to bad mouth SRK just to defend AK??!!!! AK is a decent person, I agree some people are indulging in spreading lies to malign AK. But SRK is the best entertainer and actor in the world East or West. North or South. SRK is way above the little AK. We love you SRK.

Sad that Aamir is being dragged through the mud. Aamir's Humanity Trust has nothing to do with the other namesake trust that has been created for deliberate mischief.
Aamir Khan is one of the few Bollywood Khans I can stand, good guy unlike SRK and Salman.
I think Aamir is a decent person and would not defraud people.

AK is known for his clean image and he is really good person unlike SRK . I wonder who is that mischief ...After all he is the great grandson of great M.Azad.
