According to The Times of India, Sharda University in Uttar Pradesh has expelled six students from its hostel after clashes between two groups over the March 2 India-Pakistan cricket match.

Earlier this week, 67 Kashmiri students were suspended from Swami Vivekanand Subharti University (SVSU) in Meerut over a similar row.

The Kashmiri students at the Sharda University hostel allegedly cheered for Pakistan, which led to tension with another group of students.

The situation got worse when a student commented on a social media network that an action similar to Swami Vivekanand Subharti University in Meerut should be taken by Sharda University. Students started agitating on campus and the authorities had to call the police.

“The students got into fights. Nobody was injured but we have expelled six students for the time being,” said Ranvir Singh, students' welfare dean at the Sharda University.

According to Hindustan Times, four of the expelled students are from Kashmir, while one is from Uttarakhand and another one from Uttar Pradesh.

Syed Jalal Kashmiri | 10 years ago | Reply Let me know when India respects the will of Kashmiris to choose their own destiny. No forced union will ever by permanent without the respect of the Kashmiris. We have been constantly pushing for a UN sponsored Plebiscite vote in Kashmir to determine our destiny, but India has always violently denied us that right. 100,000 Kashmiris murdered and you get angry if we cheer for Pakistan? Kashmiris have every right to resist any and all oppression by the Indian state. 66 years and on, we Kashmiris will never accept Indian rule. Also you stated that these students are on temporary leave, that is doubtful considering the university even threatened them with charges for supporting Pakistan's cricket team. These haters of Islam, Muslims, Kashmiris, and Pakistan can never live in peace with anyone. I have firm hope that soon Kashmir will join its rightful place as a province of Pakistan, as per the will of the Kashmiri nation, and we will be forever rid of Indian occupation. As of now, Kashmir's cities are shut down and massive protests are taking place, as we Kashmiris are holding Pakistani flags to show our true aspirations. We are prepared to lay down our lives for our freedom, regardless of how much we are tortured, abused, raped, murdered. Thanks to India for its heavy-handed treatment of Kashmiri students, now the whole world knows where we Kashmiris stand.

@Syed Jalal Kashmiri: The students are well within their right to support Pakistan or any other country however its highly hypocritical to do so while attending a University where students from J&K get special quotas and many probably would not have made it without the quota system. If you dont consider yourself Indian then stop attending Indian universities through special quoatas. That spot will be better utilized by someone who actually wants to be Indian and contribute to Indian society. Irrespective, it was a stupid decision to expel them for being supposedly antinational if they havent broken any law. The college was better served in sending the students (from either group involved in the tension) on leave for a few days to calm down the environment and deal with the situation in a civil manner.

That being said only those Kashmiris who are going to buy into the idea of India be it Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist etc should really be utilizing any provisions provided by the Indian govt.. If you dont believe in the system then dont take the hand outs your getting. Fight the system fully if you feel no loyalty to the nation, injustice and unfairly treated.

No state in India has recieved so much support in terms of cash, subsidies, special quotas in schools, colleges, govt and state jobs etc. like J&K yet a few Kashmiris want to play the victim card. Most of the social, income and growth indices in Kashmir are inline with other Indian states thereby showing that Kashmir is no better nor worse off than most of the states in India and shouldnt really be given any special concessions. Many would actually argue that Article 370 has actually impeded investment in J&K as it has limited investment from other states of India. Im not going to paint all Kashmiris with one brush cause there are many who have been able to take advantage of the growth that has been seen in India over the past few years but its so easy to blame everybody else for your problems.

People who achieve in life never sat and blamed the system. I as an Indian agree the situation in Kashmir isnt ideal however in this world it seldom is. Inspite of the so called oppressive Indian regime in Kashmir the number of deaths in the last 25 years is considerably less than what has happened in only Karachi in secretarian violence in the last 10 years. The soldiers in Kashmir are there to prevent any other endevours from the Pakistani side and to prevent the entry of Pakistans leading export product. Do Pakistanis have such a short memory. In 1999 Pakistan attacked India in the Kargil sector at the sametime as the two Prime Ministers were shaking hands.

Thanks but no thanks. India will keep those extra soldiers in Kashmir. By the way Kashmir had 1 million tourists last year. Lets have this discussion again about the plight of Kashmiris and Indian unjustice when indices in Pakistan are better than in J&K. Egotistical chest thumping does not change the facts on the ground.

E.T. my post is completely factual so you have no reason to moderate this. Hope it goes through.
