It’s spring time and at Bonanza, it is naturally represented by bright colours.


Upon entering Ocean Mall, Karachi on Thursday evening, one would be surprised to see the arrangement and the floral ambience. The Bonanza store itself was decked in blooming red roses in a wheel-cart and there were daisies all around in various colours. It seemed as if spring had already arrived at the store, with an explosion of vivid colours — a refreshing change from the blues and greys ever so present otherwise in our lives.

Behind the concept and vision for both the Satrangi photo shoot and event was none other than Maha Burney, who is the Creative Director for the Satrangi launch event for prêt and lawn. “For the event, we wanted the visual look to relate back to the shoot, almost as if the shoot was brought to life in the event itself, making each guest an active participant in the campaign,” she said.


Nadir Firoz Khan designed the catalogue, press kit and invite, so every detail was tied together visually. “Bonanza is such a great client in terms of giving us complete creative licence with Satrangi at Nadir Firoz Khan Photography (NFK). And of course, Amina and Anisa Rashid Khan of RAK Associates are an absolute pleasure to work with, and such a creative powerhouse. We were really happy with the result and hope everyone enjoyed the event as much as we did in putting it together,” Burney added.



Bonanza’s Satrangi collection, which last year dealt only in women’s sweaters, took a step forward this time around. Satrangi has toyed with both lawn and prêt wear in its latest collection. At the event, family and friends were treated to scrumptious orange delights, red velvet cupcakes and mint lemonade by Anisa and Amina Rashid Khan.


While speaking to The Express Tribune, Komal Dawani, Marketing and Media Manager for Bonanza said, “The launch of the prêt collection and women’s lawn is an extension of our women’s brand called Satrangi. We want to make the female personality shine through these colours. You will see a spring-is-in-the-air kind of collection. We have used lots of reds, oranges, yellows and greens.”


The collection is divided into two ranges; firstly, Satrangi Prêt, which is a ready-to-wear collection that consists of ten designs and is primarily a stitched and wrinkle-free collection. Secondly, the unstitched lawn collection comprises four designs, each available in two different colour schemes. Dawani said, “It is an entirely printed collection, no embroidery has been used.” No embroidery, but why? “Generally speaking, we want every woman in the country to try this collection out, from a housewife to a working woman, and even to one who’s a shopaholic! You just can’t wear embroidered clothes all the time.”



Asif Bilwani, Director Marketing, Bonanza said, “Bonanza is a known brand for men here in Pakistan. Satrangi is our version of a women’s line. Through this collection, we have tried to enhance the seven qualities of a women vis-à-vis the seven bright colours that Satrangi is known for!”


Bilwani said that as there were currently 60 Bonanza stores operating within Pakistan, within two years, they are planning on having separate Satrangi stores within the country exclusively catering to women. Bilwani said there will be “about 15 of these.”


“Satrangi is about women’s sweaters, prêt wear and lawn. I must inform you that our Prêt wear is wrinkle-free and the first of its kind in Pakistan,” Bilwani said.


Why conceive a wrinkle-free collection for women? “Basically, we have been involved with men’s wear for over 30 years and we think that a wrinkle-free collection is not only the need of the hour for men’s wear, but even today’s Pakistani woman isn’t behind in scheduling her office tasks. We have introduced the wrinkle-free aspect in our prêt wear collection specifically for these working women,” he asserted.


A final word from Dawani on why the fervent love for flowers in the collection: “It’s spring. It’s Satrangi. The first thing you think about when the word ‘spring’ comes to your mind is definitely flowers. We just tied the entire thing up.”
