The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has announced 250,000 coupons for free vaccination of children, to be delivered door to door in Peshawar. The distribution of coupons is part of the provincial government’s recently launched ‘Sehat ka Insaf’ programme against the rampant poliovirus and another eight paediatric diseases. In light of security arrangements for the third round of the campaign, CM Pervez Khattak has directed authorities to arrange for enhanced intelligence gathering mechanisms to ensure better security for all workers taking part in the drive. Meanwhile, six-month-old Waqar Shah, a resident of Badhaber, was diagnosed with polio on Wednesday. Waqar, son of Wadan Shah, had not received polio vaccinations in the first three months of his life. For the last three months, his parents had refused to vaccinate him. With Waqar, the total number of polio cases in Pakistan has risen to 12.
