Italy has always shown a keen interest in the Pakistani market and has positioned itself among the top 10 global trading partners of Pakistan.

The $1.2-billion bilateral trade between the two countries in 2013 is proof of this. This was stated by the Italian Ambassador to Pakistan, Adriano Chiodi Cianfarani, at a ceremony to bestow the ‘Order of the Star of Italy’ conferred on the Italian Development Council (IDC) president, Tariq Ikram, by the president of the Republic of Italy.

Speaking at the occasion, Ambassador Cianfarani revealed that Italian investments in Pakistan had grown considerably over the last few years. He said that a 24-member business delegation, representing 15 Italian companies, had visited Pakistan in December and showed interest in promoting bilateral trade.

The ambassador revealed that a second business delegation, led by Italian members of the parliament, will be visiting Pakistan in April to further boost trade relations.
