Road safety: Woman killed, 17 critical in college bus accident

Bus carrying students was on its way to girls’ college on Sahiwal Road when it overturned on Ferozepur Road.

A woman was killed and 24 other people were injured in a road accident on Saturday morning.


Rescuers told The Express Tribune that a bus carrying students of Superior Group of Colleges was on its way to a girls’ college on Sahiwal Road when it overturned near Chak Patipur on Ferozepur Road.

Rescue 1122 officials said one of the injured passengers, Aaliya Hussain, 18, died when she was being taken to a hospital.

Doctors at district headquarters hospital in Pakpattan told The Express Tribune that the condition of 17 students injured in the accident was critical. They said three injured students had been shifted to Sahiwal for treatment.

Witnesses Aamna, Kiran and Tazia Shareef said the driver of the bus, Muhammad Riaz, had been speeding.

They said they had asked him to slow down but he ignored them.

Saddar police said Riaz had been arrested following a complaint by the parents of the students injured in the accident.
