Former right-arm fast bowler Waqar Younis applied for one of the coaching posts of the national cricket team on Thursday, Express News reported.
Younis said that including former captain Wasim Akram in the coach selection committee is a great idea.
He stated that there will be no compromise on fitness and discipline, adding that his help can also be taken for the national team's training.
Today (Thursday) is the last day to submit applications to coach the team.
On January 21, Pakistan cricket authorities began the hunt for a new head coach for the national team, a day after Dav Whatmore’s two-year tenure ended with a series-levelling victory over Sri Lanka.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement it “has invited applications for the positions of head coach, batting coach and fielding coach for the national team”.
Former stars Wasim Akram, Javed Miandad and Intikhab Alam are members of the PCB-appointed committee tasked with finding the coaches. The final decision will come before the Asia Cup in Bangladesh.
“In my personal opinion, the national team should have coaching staff from Pakistan,” Wasim had said earlier.
Former cricketers Intikhab Alam and Javed Miandad as well as the PCB Chief Operating Officer Subhan Ahmed are also members in the committee.

i want pak no 1
Mohsin Khan was definitely a good positive vibe for the team, not sure how technically sound he is since coaching is a hard job and in modern cricket, coaches take trainings/classes to develop techniques and I doubt Mohsin Khan has done any of that (Has he even applied for the post???). On the contrary, on his farewell, players picked Mohsin Khan up and all which in itself says a lot. I see people talking about Tendulkar and Steve Waugh etc, those people are not professional coaches, a great batsman does not necessarily become a good coach, same goes for Inzi. Anyways Waqar was more than decent and I would like for him to come back as the head coach. Someone said Younis Khan for batting coach, how about batting AND fielding? LOL (jk!! Active players can't be appointed as a coach).
Cheers! Pakistan Zindabad
Give him the job! There is no better person. The only thing is if you give him the job you need to back him one hundred percent. No undermining him 3-6 months down the road. Give him a good five years at it.
OT: addthis is blocked now so is ET going to do something about it?? It's slowing down the loading of this site.
I do not think Waqar is a good choice. During his tenure, the team played very defensive cricket and I did not see him thinking of of the box or bringing fresh ideas to the team. For example, remember Mohali, if Waqar had decided to be aggressive and play three fast bowlers by including both Akhtar and Wahab, we would have been able to compensate for Umar Gul's lack of form during the game. The team needs a coach with a strong and attacking mentality. I would recommend an Australian, some one like Steve Waugh.
Why would you want Tendulkar when Inzamam ul haq is available? Also Mohsin Khan should be the head coach, he did a fantastic job last time around before Ramiz Raja pushed him out.
All Pakistan need is a right combination now.
Moin Khan - Manager Waqar Younis - Head Coach Younis Khan - Test Player plus Batting Coach.
This will do wonders for Pakistan. InshaaAllah
All we need is a combination of Zaheer Abbass and Waqar Younus.
Mr. Younis,
You openly criticize Pakistani players in all national and international forums.. if you can't be good advocate of the team, how can you be the best coach option???? You should continue as Pakistan Cricket Critic....
