Former right-arm fast bowler Waqar Younis applied for one of the coaching posts of the national cricket team on Thursday, Express News reported.

Younis said that including former captain Wasim Akram in the coach selection committee is a great idea.

He stated that there will be no compromise on fitness and discipline, adding that his help can also be taken for the national team's training.

Today (Thursday) is the last day to submit applications to coach the team.

On January 21, Pakistan cricket authorities began the hunt for a new head coach for the national team, a day after Dav Whatmore’s two-year tenure ended with a series-levelling victory over Sri Lanka.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement it “has invited applications for the positions of head coach, batting coach and fielding coach for the national team”.

Former stars Wasim Akram, Javed Miandad and Intikhab Alam are members of the PCB-appointed committee tasked with finding the coaches. The final decision will come before the Asia Cup in Bangladesh.

“In my personal opinion, the national team should have coaching staff from Pakistan,” Wasim had said earlier.

Former cricketers Intikhab Alam and Javed Miandad as well as the PCB Chief Operating Officer Subhan Ahmed are also members in the committee.

Mohsin Khan was definitely a good positive vibe for the team, not sure how technically sound he is since coaching is a hard job and in modern cricket, coaches take trainings/classes to develop techniques and I doubt Mohsin Khan has done any of that (Has he even applied for the post???). On the contrary, on his farewell, players picked Mohsin Khan up and all which in itself says a lot. I see people talking about Tendulkar and Steve Waugh etc, those people are not professional coaches, a great batsman does not necessarily become a good coach, same goes for Inzi. Anyways Waqar was more than decent and I would like for him to come back as the head coach. Someone said Younis Khan for batting coach, how about batting AND fielding? LOL (jk!! Active players can't be appointed as a coach).

Cheers! Pakistan Zindabad
