HANGU: Unknown assailants on Sunday gunned down six tribesmen in Lower Orakzai Agency.

The bodies were recovered from a house in Sangrani village of Feroze Khel area of the agency in the early hours of the day, said Mawaz Khan Afridi, Assistant Political Agent (APA) of the lower subdivision, talking to The Express Tribune.

“The six people, including both businessmen and labourers, had come from Tirah Valley of Khyber Agency and had rented the house,” he said, adding they had come to buy cannabis crops, which they later cut and prepare hashish from.

“At midnight, assailants barged into the house and gunned down the visitors while one of the men who had come from Mohmand Agency managed to escape during the attack,” he said.

The APA identified the dead as Shinki and Feroz – two brothers from Malikdin Khel, Haji Watan Khan and Umar Khan – two brothers from Zakha Khel – Watan Khan’s son Khan Zamir, and their uncle Moin Khan, while Mehman Sher managed to escape from the crime scene.

The APA said the bodies were taken to their hometowns for burial while Sher was taken into custody for investigations. He said Sher revealed that he belonged to Mohmand Agency, and was visiting the family to help them in cutting the crops.

Afridi said such incidents had occurred in the area before and various drug trafficking groups had been found involved in them. “Maybe they had a dispute with drug traffickers over crops,” the APA said.

He ruled out any involvement of militants and said that most of the people in the area had personal feuds.
