Annual conference: Iqbal vows to exploit agri potential

Minister said government has been focusing on institutional building to overcome the problem of food security.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal yesterday said that the agriculture and livestock sector possessed great potential and the government was committed to exploit it to uplift the economy of the country. “Pakistan is an agriculture based country and we are heading towards water scarcity, which is essential to increasing production,” he said while addressing the ‘Second Annual Conference’. He said that Pakistan can overcome the shortage through strategy and planning to become self sufficient in water. “Pakistan is the fourth largest milk producer in the world but lacks quality storage mechanism to attract domestic and foreign investment.” He said that the government has been focusing on institutional building to overcome the problem of food security in future according to the vision 2025.
