ISLAMABAD: The Constitutional Reforms Committee (CRC) Chairman Raza Rabbani has summoned a meeting of the reforms body on November 1 to discuss the Supreme Court’s (SC) interim verdict on the 18th amendment.

The CRC meeting, which will include members of almost all political parties in the county, aims to take a detailed view of the interim verdict of the SC on Article 175-A, which deals with the appointment of judges.

Rabbani has directed CRC to respect verdict coming from the court and has directed all party members not to give any statements to the media.

Analysts said the court had adopted a middle path by sending Article 175-A back to the parliament for reconsideration and not striking it down.

Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said Article 175-A violated the independence of the judiciary and that consultation with the chief justice is necessary for the appointment of judges.

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said the SC decision regarding the 18th amendment case has enhanced the judiciary’s  respect of the parliament.
