FAISALABAD:

A girl was shot dead and her father was seriously injured allegedly over a rejected proposal in Thikriwala area on Saturday.

Police said Riazul Haq, a resident of Chak 67-JB, and his family were shot at by Mustansar Hussain. Police said Haq’s daughter, Iqra Riaz, died on the spot.

Amanat Ali, a neighbour, told the media that “Mustansar Hussain had wanted to marry Iqra Riaz… when his marriage proposal was turned down he threatened the family with dire consequences.”

Ali said Hussain and his accomplices, Zahid, Mohsin and Tanveer, broke into Haq’s house on Saturday and opened fire at the family.

Ali said Haq was taken to a hospital where his condition was later reported to be critical.

The Thikriwala station house officer (SHO) said a team had been constituted to arrest the suspects.
