Hanif, undergoing treatment in London, stated last week that he was forced to take loans of seven million rupees, according to the Press Trust of India.
“The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) didn’t bother to inquire how I was managing things,” Hanif told reporters in Karachi at a reception held to celebrate his birthday, where he was presented Rs200,000 by an admirer.
“There is no respect or care for a sportsman once he retires in our country,” Hanif had said.
However, on Monday Hanif received a call informing him that the PM has directed the PCB and Pakistan Sports Board to look into the matter. “I am happy that our PM took out time to look into my case,” Hanif said.

Where is Najam Sethi?
Though Hanif Mohammad Sahab was a great cricketer, he is in no way a person without means. He was employed with PIA till early 1990s and so was his son, Shoaib. It would be unfair to ask for assistance like this. I was his neighbour for years in Karachi and I feel sad to hear that he is asking for assistance despite not being less fortunate compared to other sportsmen, not to compare with all the common people
The government and PCB should do everything possible to help one of our great hero.
