Tribute to Perveen Shakir: Postal stamp to be issued on 19th anniversary

The famous Urdu poet died in a road accident in Islamabad on December 26, 1994.

The Postal Services Department has issued a commemorative stamp in her honour.



A slew of programmes have been chalked out to observe Perveen Shakir’s death anniversary through out the country.  The programmes were finalised at a meeting of Perveen Shakir Trust (PST) held at the residence of Dr Parveen Qadir Agha, Chairperson of the trust  here the other day, said a press release.


A floral wreath would be placed on the grave of the poet at the Islamabad Graveyard, H-8 on December 26 at 10am. The Postal Services Department has issued a commemorative stamp in her honour.

Three books on her life and poetry will be launched at the annual session of the trust in February in Karachi. The books, “Silliloqui”, an Italian translation of her poetry, “Perveen Shakir-Jaisa mein ney dekha” by Rafaqat Javed and “Perveen Shakir ka siyasi aur asri shaoor” by Farhat Shafique will be launched.

A selection of her poetry is also being published by the Oxford University Press which will be part of the Karachi Literature Festival in February.
