The final list of candidates in the Lahore Bar Association (LBA) election will be displayed on December 27 following scrutiny of nomination papers.
The polling is scheduled to be held on January 11.
G A Khan Tariq and Chaudhary Ishtiaq have filed nomination for president. Tariq is associated with the Asma Jahangir group and Chaudhary is affiliated with the Hamid Khan group.
Contesters have approached lawyers’ chambers in Cantt and Model Town courts seeking votes. Corner meetings are also being held. Contesters are also seen holding meetings with various lawyers groups.
Five candidates are contesting for the three vice president seats. Aziz Bhatti, Muhammad Jahangir Bhatti, Labib Zafar Bajwa, Syed Asim Ali Shah, Ghulam Abbas and Sahir Awan, are contesting for vice president seats at district and sessions courts. Zameer Ahmed Jhedu and Syed Tafseer Haider Shah are running for one seat for vice president at Model Town courts.
Chaudhary Saleem Ladi, Qaseem Aslam Hanjra, Adeeb Aslam Bhindar and Khuram Mir are contesting for the seats of general secretaries.
Rashid Nazir and Azmat Ali Awan are running for library secretary.
Rana Ahsan and Tahir Riaz Sulehri are contesting for the post joint secretary and Syed Pir Freedul Haq Chishti and Ajmal Malik are running for the post of finance secretary in the LBA elections.
