SUKKUR:

Institute of Business Administration (IBA) in Sukkur will be offering a BSc in accounting and finance from August 2014 in collaboration with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICap).

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today between the two organisations at IBA’s Knowledge Centre. IBA Sukkur director Nisar Ahmed Siddiqi and ICap senior council member Khalilullah Shaikh signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions during a ceremony.

Siddiqi termed the programme a new start and said that it will benefit the youth of this region, who were previously forced to go to Karachi for an accounting and finance degree. “We endeavour to provide quality education to the youth at their doorstep,” said Siddiqi. “For us sky is not the limit, but just the start of the journey.”

Siddiqi then went on to reveal the scheduled dates of the course. “Our talent hunt programme will start in January 2014 and those who qualify will be given admission into the course, with classes commencing from August 2014,” said Siddiqi.

Elaborating on IBA’s education policy, Siddiqi said that IBA never compromises on quality and this has helped them forge a reputation as one of the best business schools in the country. Siddiqi felt that the programme will not only serve the entrepreneurs of upper Sindh but also the entire country. “The main purpose of this programme is to provide quality education to the youth of upper Sindh so that they can serve the nation and create jobs.”

Siddiqi revealed that he had high hopes for the future of education in the country. “It should not be a matter of pride for us if a foreign university establishes its campus in Sukkur,” said Siddiqi. “We should rather look forward to the day when IBA establishes its campus in Washington DC. Hopefully, one day the United States president will call Pakistan and request for his son’s admission in IBA.”

Shaikh appreciated the quality of education at IBA Sukkur and revealed ICap’s decision to turn down two universities in favour of IBA Sukkur for the MoU.

“After reviewing IBA’s brilliant academic track record, we are proud to sign this MoU with them,” he said. “Today is a historic day for IBA and ICap as well as the people of this area.”

According to Shaikh, ICap was established in 1961 to promote good accounting and auditing standards in the country.

The council member said that ICap is working to provide affordable and quality education to talented students. “The country is full of talent but unfortunately, this talent is not utilised properly,” said Shaikh. “With the help of IBA, we will be able to make quality education more accessible to the country’s youth.”
