Indian Idol 2 winner Sandeep Acharya, 29, died in a Gurgaon hospital on Sunday, December 15, 2013.

Acharya, who hailed from Rajasthan, won the popular singing reality show on April 22, 2006. He had been suffering from jaundice for 15 days, reports Indian Express. Playback singer and Indian Idol 2 judge Shreya Ghoshal expressed her grief over his unexpected demise, “Young, and a wonderful guy... I still hope this news is untrue.” Director-choreographer and Ghoshal’s co-judge from the programme Farah Khan wrote, “It’s too sad to hear of Sandeep Acharya, winner of Indian Idol 2 and my favourite, passing away. Such a gentle boy he was. Not his time to go.”

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said the news about the young singer’s death is unbelievable. He brought laurels to Rajasthan by winning Indian Idol 2, Gehlot stated. The singer had bagged a number of prestigious awards, including the Sur Aradhna award in Delhi’s Siri Fort Auditorium for Best Upcoming Male Singer, ibtimes.co.in reports. According to Hindustan Times, Acharya was supposed to release his new album, O Sanam Tere Bina, in mid-December.

Acharya leaves behind his wife and a one-month-old daughter. Our prayers go out to his loved ones.
