Reitrement beckons: Kayani attends his last Corps Commander meeting

Outgoing Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Pervez Kayani also paid a farewell call on President Mamnoon Hussain.

RAWALPINDI: The outgoing Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on Thursday held a farewell meeting with top military commanders, who paid him a ‘glowing tribute’ for his services, Express News reported.

Kayani is expected to formally handover the charge of Army Chief to recently promoted General Raheel Sharif in a ceremony on Friday.

Ahead of his retirement, Kayani, who served as head of the army for six years, presided over his last corps commanders meeting at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

The Army Chief designate General Raheel also attended the meeting.

Kayani thanked the commanders for their support and remarked that the Army was ready and capable to face all internal and external challenges.

Kayani pays farewell call on President

Earlier in the day, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani paid a farewell call on President Mamnoon Hussain at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

The President lauded the services rendered by the out-going Chief of Army Staff for defence of the country and for the armed forces.

The President also expressed his best wishes for his future life.
