SHABQADAR/ DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A locally made bomb, placed inside an empty oil canister, was defused by the bomb disposal squad (BDS) in Sro Kallay, Shabqadar on Monday.

According to Sro Kallay police station SHO Gulshed Khan, the police was informed about a suspicious looking oil canister abandoned in the Subhan Khwar marble factories zone on Mohmand Shabqadar Road on Monday evening.

The police rushed to the site and also informed the BDS. They reached the factories zone and defused the five-kilogramme explosive device. The bomb also contained shrapnel and could have caused substantial destruction had it exploded.

An FIR has been filed against unidentified persons and the police started investigation. In June a similar incident occurred; a police vehicle was targeted when a bomb planted in the same spot exploded.

Meanwhile, one police official was killed last Wednesday near Shabqadar Bazaar by an unidentified target killer. The same day a doctor and his technician were targeted while they were en route to their homes near Sro Kallay. However, the doctor and his colleague were injured and are currently admitted at a hospital.

In a separate instance, the BDS in DI Khan defused a 12-kilogramme explosive near Ara Road, Iqbal Town, said a police official at the District Police Office DI Khan. They were acting on information about a suspicious object lying in a field near Ara Road. They claim the bomb was Russian-made.
